Boustead Hill - Pony Care Days in Cumbria

Pony care days in Cumbria are available in most school holidays; we have two types of pony care days half days or full days. Pony care days are designed to encourage children to learn all about the Stable management of horses and ponies and make them more confident when around them. On our pony care days we work through various subjects of stable management, we have designed a badge for each topic that we feel is necessary for the children to achieve. These badges match our logo which looks great on our Boustead Hill Equestrian Centre hoodies.

The topics that we work through include grooming, tacking and un-tacking, points of the horse, parts of the tack, tack cleaning, putting on a head collar and tying up correctly, mucking out, feeding, rugs, bandaging, colours and markings, leading, poisonous plants, field management, biting, filling and tying up hay nets, plaiting, horse ailments, confirmation, first aid, safety around the yard and teachers assistant. We created a syllabus for each topic the children work their way through the syllabus on pony care days in Cumbria until we feel they are ready to undergo a test to achieve their badge.
